Images 2

As a child, when looking at pictures or brochures from China I was always struck by the utter cleanliness they depicted. China seemed to me then very clean and quite prettily red, and no matter how many, different images I've seen of modern, technologically forward -Everything-Made-in-China- China, those old images brought back from China in the 1960's by my grandfather always come to the forefront of my mind when thinking about or envisioning China.

Similarly, when looking at images from North Korea the words that came to mind were 'efficient productiveness'. Machines rattling in factories, babies being born and raised to join the ranks of productive workers, scientists studying single-mindedly to bring progress to their country - everybody righteously and fulfillingly active.

Back then images never lied, I thought they showed me realities as they existed and could be found at the other end of the world. Beautiful lies.
